Check The Connection

The first thing you need to do when troubleshooting your Linksys extender is to make sure it is connected properly. If you are using a wireless connection, make sure that:

  • Your router should connect to the extender with an Ethernet cable.
  • The power outlet is working fine.
  • The Ethernet cable is plugged into the correct port on each device.
  • The firmware is up-to-date.

Verify The Login Information

Make sure you’re not mistyping the address. If you’re using a name, check that it’s correct. Also, if you’re using an IP address instead of a name, try logging in again with a different browser. Additionally, check – are there any network issues? These are usually caused by a problem with your network or extender settings. Go to your extender settings and make sure everything is working correctly and nothing has changed since when the error started occurring!

Check The URL

If you are not connecting to the correct URL, this can cause errors. Make sure that you are typing in the correct URL: 192.168.1.1. If you have entered your username and password correctly but still cannot connect, check your extender’s user manual to make sure it is setup correctly.

Reset Your Device

It is wise to reset your Linksys extender to factory settings. To reset your extender, unplug it from the wall and leave it unplugged for at least 30 seconds. Plug it back in, wait for all three lights to stop blinking, and then reboot your computer. If you are still having issues, try resetting your modem and upgrading the firmware of both devices.

Update The Firmware

If you’re upgrading your firmware, do it on a wired connection. Because if you have an error that prevents the upgrade from completing, it’s easier to troubleshoot from a wired connection. In addition to simply being more reliable than WiFi connections, a wired connection also allows for more precise troubleshooting.

Use a Different Browser

In Chrome:

  • Click on the menu icon in the upper right-hand corner of your browser
  • Select Settings from this drop-down menu
  • Scroll down to “Advanced Settings” and click on the Network tab at the top of this window
  • Under “Request timeout” select 0 seconds (this will allow any page or file to load even if it takes a while)

And then click “Apply” at the bottom of this window. This will reset your network settings and allow you to browse the internet again.
