Linksys has completely taken the networking game to a next level by introducing velop systems. One such masterpiece from its vast collection is Linksys velop mx4200 setup. It uses a mesh technique to cover your whole home with wireless signals. No matter whether it’s your front balcony or the backyard, you’ll find complete connectivity in every corner. So if you decide to shift from traditional routers to Linksys Velop then this guide is the one that you should consider for errorless installation. We have kept the setup process simple and completely beginner friendly so that even a non-tech buddy can set up the device easily.

Pre-Setup Requirements

Linksys velop mx4200 setup requirements are very basic. You just need:

  • A modem with active internet connection.
  • Thereafter an Ethernet wire for connecting the main MX4200 node to an upstream device (modem).
  • Child nodes with their respective power adapters (if any).
  • Next, you need a laptop or your computer system to access the web browser.
  • Moving further, ensure you have vacant, properly working electrical outlets for activating all nodes.
  • Lastly, for quick setup, note down the information that is written on the primary velop node. It consists of SSID, password and recovery information. All these three details will be required during the Linksys velop mx4200 setup

Initial Installation Steps

  • First, take your main MX4200 node and an Ethernet cable that has its connection to the upstream device. Move the cable’s second end to the switch marked as internet on the main velop node.
  • After attaching the main hardware to each other now use the power cord to turn on the MX4200 node. After turning on do not immediately move to the next step as node requires a little time to start up. You will get the indication to move forward when the light shown on MX4200 is purple in color.
  • Moving further, grab your laptop or computer system. Visit its wifi settings. Look for the similar wifi name that you noted from the node’s panel. Tap on it. Enter password. Click on Connect.
  • Some users find the above wireless connection method unreliable. So if you are also one amongst them, then consider using ethernet cable for connecting your laptop or computer system to the velop node.
  • Now on your networked device, open the internet browser. Before you proceed to the next Linksys velop mx4200 setup step, ensure the chosen browser is up-to-date and it should also be compatible. We would suggest using internet explorer, chrome, firefox, edge or safari.
  • Herein jump onto the address field. Type http://192.168.1.1. Then click Enter.

Final Setup Steps

  • Tap on the Mobile image. As you are setting up the velop system primarily so you need to curate the password.
  • For curation of the security key click on the option of reset password. Now fill up the recovery information that you found on the Velop’s bottom panel. Recheck its correctness. Then tap on Submit.
  • Now curate a new security key, also add a hint. Once done tap on “Reset”.
  • Now using the new security key (password) login into the main interface.
  • Downwards at the right side you’ll find the option of “CA”. Tap on it. Then click on Connectivity.  th

Thereafter on the “Router Setup” option.

  • Finally in this step of Linksys velop mx4200 setup, you get to create a SSID and security key. As you curate it, click on apply.
  • As soon as you finish the above step, the light on the MX4200 node begins to flicker. After a few seconds, you’ll see the network name on your interface screen. Connect to it too. After successful connection you’ll see the message confirming the same. Also the node’s light will turn blue.
  •  Lastly if you want to add child nodes, first power them on.
  • Thereafter if you are using wireless nodes then tap on “Add wireless node option”. Whereas if you have wired nodes then first connect them to the parent node via ethernet cable and then tap on “Add wired child nodes” option.
  • Finally when the additional nodes show up blue light, tap on Ok.

Here the Linksys Velop MX4200 setup completes.

Test The Network

First for best networking experience make sure the placement of child nodes and the main MX4200 velop node is accurate. Place the primary node in an open and central area that doesn’t have unnecessary physical barriers. Thereafter try plotting the extending nodes at an equal distance from each other. Do not place additional nodes too far from the main MX4200 node as this will make the communication process difficult. Finally, move around different areas of your place and check if the connectivity is proper or not. In case you find a dead zone then in that scenario redo strategic placement or add up one more node to extend the coverage.
